Virgin Reward Seat Checker
Loyalty program: Virgin Points
Track Virgin Atlantic reward flight availability across every long-haul route from London. Full-year Virgin Points calendar for Economy, Premium, and Upper Class.
A Virgin reward seat checker answers one question: does this date have a seat bookable with Virgin Points? Virgin Atlantic's own tool answers it one date at a time. MileSeat answers it for all 365 — a Virgin reward flight finder that shows every date with Virgin reward seats on the route, split by Economy, Premium and Upper Class, with the seat count on each. Read it as an award calendar rather than a date-by-date lookup: when your dates are full, set an alert and MileSeat emails you the moment inventory changes, which on Virgin's transatlantic routes usually means a cancellation that will be gone within hours.

When are Virgin Atlantic reward flights released?
Virgin Atlantic loads award inventory when the schedule opens, then adjusts it repeatedly as departure approaches. Reward seats are not a fixed allocation — they are released, withdrawn and released again, which is why a date that showed nothing last week can have four Upper Class seats today.
- Around 11 to 12 months out: the schedule opens and the initial Virgin Points inventory appears. On peak transatlantic dates this is often the only time Upper Class has more than one or two seats.
- 3 to 6 months out: Virgin rebalances against cash bookings. Routes that are selling slowly get reward seats returned, so a second window opens on less popular dates and secondary airports.
- Inside 2 to 3 weeks: unsold seats are released to the reward pool. Availability here is unpredictable but far less contested, because most people stopped checking months earlier.
- Continuously: cancellations. Every rebooked or refunded ticket puts its seat straight back into inventory, and on London–New York or London–Los Angeles it is typically taken the same day.
The best way to find Virgin Atlantic reward flights
Search Virgin Atlantic award flights by year, not by date
Virgin's reward seat checker is built around a date you already have. That is backwards for reward travel: availability is clustered, so the useful question is which dates have seats, not whether one particular date does. Start from a full-year calendar and choose your trip around the openings.
Search one seat first
Reward inventory is counted per seat. Asking for two Upper Class seats hides every date that has one, and on Virgin's premium cabins single seats are far more common than pairs. Search for one, see the real pattern, then decide whether to split the party across cabins or dates.
Look at Gatwick and Manchester too
Virgin flies its transatlantic routes from more than one UK airport, and reward availability differs between them on the same day. A Heathrow search showing nothing does not mean the route is shut — the seat may be on the Gatwick or Manchester departure.
Let an alert do the watching
Most Virgin Points seats on busy routes come from cancellations and last hours, not days. Checking the seat checker once an evening will miss nearly all of them. An alert on the route and cabin you want is the only realistic way to catch inventory that appears at 3am.
Get Instant Virgin Atlantic Seat Alerts
Virgin Atlantic releases reward seats sporadically — sometimes bursts of Business or First open weeks before departure. Create an alert on any Virgin Atlantic route and MileSeat emails you the moment new Virgin Points availability appears.

How many Virgin Points for Upper Class transatlantic?+
London (LHR) to New York (JFK) in Upper Class costs 47,500–70,000 Virgin Points one-way depending on peak / off-peak dates, plus taxes. LHR–LAX and LHR–BOS follow similar bands. These are competitive Business Class redemption values for direct London flights.
What are the best Virgin Points sweet spots?+
The top sweet spot is ANA Business Class between London and Tokyo for around 90,000 Virgin Points one-way (partner award). On Virgin metal, LHR–JFK Upper Class off-peak is the most consistent value. LHR–BGI (Barbados) also opens generously.
When does Virgin Atlantic release Upper Class awards?+
Virgin opens award inventory 331 days before departure. Upper Class is released more predictably than most competitors — but off-peak fills quickly. Set a MileSeat alert on your target route to catch fresh Upper Class inventory the moment it opens.
Can I book Delta or ANA with Virgin Points?+
Yes. Virgin Points work on Delta, Air France, KLM, and ANA for partner redemptions. The ANA transfer sweet spot (Business/First Class to Tokyo) is one of the best long-haul redemptions in the entire points ecosystem. MileSeat's Popular Searches focus on Virgin-metal availability.
What is a Virgin Atlantic reward seat checker and how is MileSeat different?+
A reward seat checker tells you whether a given flight has seats bookable with Virgin Points rather than cash. Virgin Atlantic runs its own, and it works — but it answers one date at a time, so finding the good dates means repeating the search. MileSeat checks the same inventory and shows a full 365-day calendar for the route, with the number of seats in Economy, Premium and Upper Class on every date.
Why does the reward seat checker show nothing on my dates?+
Usually because the seats have not been released yet, or because they were released and taken. Virgin loads most inventory around 11 to 12 months ahead and adjusts it continuously; Upper Class on peak transatlantic dates can be empty for weeks and then open several seats at once. An empty calendar is a reason to set an alert on the route, not to abandon it.
Do I still pay taxes and charges when I book with Virgin Points?+
Yes. Virgin Points cover the fare, but taxes and carrier charges are paid separately and on long-haul premium cabins departing the UK they are substantial. The points figure is only part of the price, so it is worth comparing the total against the cash fare before booking — particularly in Economy, where the cash fare is often low enough that the points buy very little.
Is there a Virgin Atlantic award calendar showing a whole month or year?+
Virgin's own tool is a date-by-date checker rather than a calendar, which is why most people end up clicking through dates one at a time. MileSeat presents the same inventory as a Virgin points calendar: 365 days on one screen, each date marked with the number of reward seats in Economy, Premium and Upper Class. Scanning a year takes about as long as checking three dates the manual way.
Can I use Virgin Points on partner airlines?+
Virgin Points can be redeemed on several partners, and Virgin Atlantic joined SkyTeam in 2023. Partner award inventory is a separate pool from Virgin's own, though, and is loaded and withdrawn on the partner's schedule rather than Virgin's. MileSeat's Virgin tracking covers Virgin-operated flights, so partner space needs checking separately.
