British Airways Reward Flights
Loyalty program: Avios (British Airways Executive Club)
Track British Airways reward flight availability across all Avios cabin classes — Euro Traveller (Economy), World Traveller Plus (Premium Economy), Club World (Business Class), and First — on a full-year calendar.
British Airways reward flights are the seats BA sets aside for Avios rather than cash, and they are released and withdrawn on their own schedule rather than being on sale continuously. That is why searching avios reward flights one date at a time rarely works: a route can be shut for three weeks and then open four Club World seats on a random Tuesday. MileSeat shows a full year of BA Avios flights on one calendar, marked with the seats open in Euro Traveller, World Traveller Plus, Club World and First, so you can plan the trip around the dates that actually have availability.

When are British Airways reward flights released?
British Airways opens its schedule 355 days before departure, and that is when the largest single batch of Avios seats appears. Knowing the two release windows is most of the game — miss them and you are competing for whatever other people give back.
- 355 days out: the schedule opens and the initial award inventory is loaded. For popular routes in Club World this is often the only moment several seats are available on the same day.
- Roughly 3 to 4 months out: airlines revise their forecasts. Seats that were held back for cash sale start returning to the award pool on routes that are selling slowly.
- Inside 21 days: BA releases a final tranche on flights it has not filled. These are the least predictable but the easiest to get, because most people have stopped looking.
- Any time: cancellations. Someone rebooks and their seat returns to inventory immediately, which is why an alert beats checking manually — the seat may exist for only a few hours.
The best way to find British Airways reward flights
Search the year, not the date
The single biggest mistake is fixing your dates first. Award availability is clustered, not evenly spread: a route can be shut for three weeks and then open four Club World seats on a Tuesday. Start from the calendar and pick your trip around where the seats actually are.
Check both directions separately
Outbound and return inventory are independent. A return search that shows nothing often hides a perfectly good outbound. Look at each leg on its own calendar first, then line them up.
Try one seat before you try four
Award inventory is counted per seat, and asking for four at once hides every date that has one, two or three. Search for a single seat to see the true shape of availability, then work out whether to split the party across cabins or dates.
Set an alert instead of refreshing
Most seats on busy routes are cancellations, and they are taken within hours. Checking once a day will miss almost all of them. An alert that emails you the moment inventory changes is the only realistic way to catch them.

What's the best way to find British Airways reward flight availability?+
MileSeat scans British Airways reward inventory across every serviced route and shows availability for the full year on a single calendar. You see all four cabins (Euro Traveller, World Traveller Plus, Club World, First) with seat counts and Avios pricing, so you can jump straight to a booking with fewer clicks than searching ba.com day by day.
How do BA reward flights work with Avios?+
British Airways releases a limited number of award seats on most flights. You redeem Avios plus taxes and carrier surcharges. Peak dates cost more Avios than off-peak. MileSeat tags each date so you can spot cheap Avios redemptions at a glance.
When does British Airways release reward seats?+
BA typically opens award inventory 355 days before departure, with additional seats released periodically as the flight fills up (or doesn't). Set a MileSeat alert on your route so you're notified the moment fresh Avios seats appear.
Can I use Avios for Business Class or First Class on BA reward flights?+
Yes. Club World (BA's Business Class) and First Class award seats do exist on BA reward flights, but they're scarcer than Economy. Popular routes like LHR–JFK, LHR–SIN, and LHR–HKG tend to open premium reward seats in bursts — MileSeat alerts let you catch every Business Class or First Class release.
British Airways Reward Flight Finder not working — what can I do?+
BA's own Reward Flight Finder does go down, and it also returns nothing in cases that are not outages: dates beyond the 355-day booking window do not exist to search, and a logged-out session shows less than a logged-in one. Worth checking those first. If the tool itself is unavailable, MileSeat reads the same British Airways award inventory and shows it as a full-year calendar, so you can keep searching while BA's site is down — and see the whole year at once rather than one date at a time when it comes back.
Why does my route show no British Airways reward flights at all?+
Usually one of three things. The dates may not be released yet — BA loads inventory 355 days out, so anything beyond that simply does not exist to search. The cabin may be genuinely sold out, which is common for Club World on transatlantic routes in school holidays. Or the seats were released and taken; award inventory on busy routes is often gone within hours. An empty calendar is a reason to set an alert, not to give up on the route.
What is the British Airways Companion Voucher and does it need award availability?+
The Companion Voucher is earned by hitting a spend threshold on a British Airways American Express card. It lets a second passenger travel on the same booking for the taxes and charges rather than a second set of Avios. It only works on a reward booking, which means you still need two award seats available on the same flight in the same cabin — the voucher does not create availability, it halves the Avios cost once you have found it.
Do I pay taxes and charges on top of the Avios?+
Yes, and on British Airways they matter. Long-haul departures from London carry the highest carrier charges of any Avios airline, and on premium cabins they can run into several hundred pounds per person. The Avios figure is only half the price. Departing from a European city on an Iberia or Qatar Airways flight — the same Avios balance works on all three — is often materially cheaper for the same journey.
Is it worth using Avios for Economy on British Airways?+
It depends on the fare. Reward Flight Saver caps the charges on shorter routes, which makes Euro Traveller redemptions reasonable when cash fares are high. On long-haul Economy the maths is usually worse: the cash fare is low enough that each Avios buys very little. Avios generally return the most value in Club World and First, which is also where availability is hardest — the reason a full-year calendar is worth more in premium cabins than in Economy.
