British Airways Premium Economy (World Traveller Plus)

World Traveller Plus is British Airways' long-haul premium economy: a separate, smaller cabin with a wider seat, 38 inches of pitch instead of 31, two checked bags instead of one, and better food and drink. It does not include a flat bed, lounge access or Fast Track. Below is exactly what you get, how it compares with economy and Club World, and what a seat costs in Avios.

The seat

The cabin sits between Club World and economy and is much smaller than either, so it is quieter and boarding and meal service move faster. Seats are arranged 2-4-2 on most aircraft, with a leg rest or footrest, more recline than economy and a larger entertainment screen.

The exact seat depends on the aircraft. BA flies World Traveller Plus on the Boeing 777, 787 and Airbus A350 and A380, and newer or refitted aircraft have a noticeably better seat and screen than older 777s. The aircraft is shown when you book. Couples do best in the window pairs. The bulkhead row has the most legroom but no footrest, and the tray table and screen fold out of the armrest.

What's included

  • Two meal services from a premium economy menu, with complimentary drinks including wine and spirits
  • An amenity kit and noise-cancelling headphones

  • A dedicated World Traveller Plus check-in desk
  • More Avios and Tier Points than an economy fare on the same route
  • Boarding in group 3, ahead of economy

  • Lounge access — only with Executive Club or oneworld status
  • Fast Track security
  • A flat bed: you still sleep sitting up
  • Premium economy on short-haul Europe; the step up there is Club Europe

Is it worth it?

It depends mostly on whether you will sleep. On a daytime flight — London to the US is a daytime flight — the extra legroom, the wider seat and the quieter cabin make eight to eleven hours noticeably easier, and that is where World Traveller Plus earns its price. On an overnight flight, such as the return from the US East Coast or a flight to Asia, you still sleep upright, and Club World is the cabin that actually changes the trip.

Price decides the rest. When a World Traveller Plus fare is around twice the economy fare on the same flight, it is usually good value. At three times or more it is competing with Club World sale fares and with Avios redemptions, and one of those is often the better use of the money.

A common way to get the best of both: fly premium economy on the daytime leg and use Avios for Club World on the overnight one. The second bag also matters more than it looks if you would otherwise pay to check one on each leg.

How many Avios is British Airways Premium Economy?

Avios prices as of 10 October 2026. Taxes and carrier charges are paid in cash on top and are high on long-haul flights from London. BA changes its Avios prices from time to time, so confirm the figure on ba.com when you book. For what Avios are worth in pounds, see the Avios guide.

Booking World Traveller Plus with Avios

  1. Find a date with a reward seat. BA releases only a few premium economy reward seats per flight, and on popular routes they go months ahead. This, not your balance, is what usually blocks a booking.
  2. Check the Avios and the cash charges for that date — peak and off-peak differ by tens of thousands of Avios on the same route.
  3. Top up if you are short, for example from American Express Membership Rewards, which transfers to Avios.
  4. Book on ba.com under Book with Avios. To upgrade a paid World Traveller Plus fare to Club World instead, you need a Club World reward seat on that flight.

FAQ

What is British Airways Premium Economy called?

World Traveller Plus. It is BA's long-haul premium economy cabin, sold between World Traveller (economy) and Club World (business). On short-haul European flights there is no premium economy; the step up from Euro Traveller is Club Europe.

Is British Airways Premium Economy worth it?

On a daytime flight, usually yes: seven extra inches of legroom, a wider seat and a second checked bag make a nine-hour day noticeably easier, and you arrive with the evening still usable. On an overnight flight the case is weaker, because you still sleep upright. If the plan is to sleep, a Club World seat — even one bought with Avios — changes the trip far more than World Traveller Plus does.

Does British Airways Premium Economy include lounge access?

No. A World Traveller Plus ticket does not include lounge access or Fast Track security. You get lounge access only through Executive Club or oneworld status, or by holding a card or membership that includes it.

How many bags can I take in World Traveller Plus?

Two checked bags of up to 23kg each on most routes, against one in World Traveller. The cabin allowance is the same in both cabins: one cabin bag up to 56 × 45 × 25cm and one smaller personal item.

How many Avios is British Airways Premium Economy?

From London, one way, about 46,750 Avios off-peak to New York, Boston, Toronto or Dubai, and 52,250 to the US West Coast, Miami or Houston. Peak dates cost noticeably more — 66,000 and 74,250 for the same routes. Taxes and carrier charges are paid in cash on top and are substantial on long-haul flights from London.

Do I earn more Avios and Tier Points in World Traveller Plus?

Yes. A paid World Traveller Plus fare earns more Avios and more Executive Club Tier Points than an economy fare on the same route, which matters if you are working towards Bronze or Silver status. Reward tickets booked with Avios earn neither.

Can I upgrade from World Traveller Plus to Club World with Avios?

Yes, on most paid fares, provided there is a Club World reward seat on that flight. You pay the difference in Avios between the two cabins on that route. Because the upgrade depends on reward space in the higher cabin, checking which dates have Club World seats before you buy the World Traveller Plus fare is what makes the upgrade reliable.

Which aircraft have World Traveller Plus?

Every BA long-haul aircraft — the Boeing 777, 787 and Airbus A350 and A380 — has a World Traveller Plus cabin. The seat and screen differ by aircraft and refit, so the experience on a newer 787 or A350 is not identical to an older 777. The aircraft type is shown when you book and on the flight details.
